Defunding the police means reallocating funds

The proper way to defund the police is through reallocating and redirecting funding away from the police department to other local taxpayer-funded Government agencies.

 

“Defund the police” is both a slogan and a talking point among protests across the country. Emerging from the unjust killing of George Floyd, the idea supports shifting funds from police departments to other forms of community resources, such as social services, youth services, housing, education, and healthcare.
